startup.exe file in Windows\System32
I receive a Windows Security Warning upon each bootup regarding a 51kb file titled "startup.exe" in the Windows\System32 folder. I have tried both Run and Cancel, and see no discernable difference. In the Properties for this file, in Digital Signatures tab, Name of signer shows Micro-Star Int'l Co., Ltd. Here's my config, just in case one of the hardware setup files may have added this into my bootup: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit ASRock MB - N68PV-GS AMD Phenom 8450 Toliman 2.1GHz 4Gb (2x2Gb) 240-pin DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) GeForce GTS 250 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 200Gb Seagate SATA C Drive 250Gb WD SATA D Drive

Hi, Ensure that your antivirus is up-to-date and the OS is patched with the latest service pack and hotfixes. Check for autostart entries and remove any reference to "suspicious" executables/programs (including your startup.exe). You can perform a clean boot up and remove certain entries from msconfig. Here's an example of running a clean boot up and disabling/removing certain services/programs using msconfig: How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 Regards, Salvador Manaois III MCSE MCSA MCTS MCITP:EA/SA C|EH CIWA ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bytes & Badz: http://badzmanaois.blogspot.com My Passion: http://flickr.com/photos/badzmanaois My Scripting Blog: http://sgwindowsgroup.org/blogs/badz

Hi nsn1965, Try the steps below to see if there is any micro-start items enabled when start: 1. Click the Start Button type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box, and then press Enter. Note: If prompted, please click Continue on the User Account Control (UAC) window. 2. Click the "Startup" tab, find if there is any "Micro-Start" related item. If so, uncheck it and then click OK. Then, restart the computer. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK. Please check if the issue can be resolved. If the issue persists, access Clean Boot as Salvador mentioned to check the result. Regards, Linda
